SOUL Reunion!

Some of the great teens from the SOUL Surfer Program
during the summer 2006! photo taken 2/10/07
Many of our SOUL campers asked a lot of questions and were interested in becoming a part of the “bigger picture” at YMCA Camp Surf. Their enthusiasm sparked the idea of planning a reunion to get together and plan for future opportunities here at camp.
Over a weekend in February, campers got to catch up, enjoy the “refreshing” winter water, participate in camp activities, and hang out in the staff lounge watching movies and playing games. Many of the campers that attended applied, and interviewed, for volunteer Camp Assistant positions for summer 2007.
It was great to see SOUL Surfers reunite with friends and to hear them share their memories of being campers, not only in the SOUL program, but in all the programs offered at YMCA Camp Surf. It was also fun for the staff at camp to get to really hang out with the teens. Nat Corral, the Summer Coordinator who ran SOUL last summer planned the weekend. Our new full time Coordinators Julie Tosten and Gil Olsen got to meet some of our terrific campers. And even Zayanne and Mark got to hang out and spend the night in a cabin with kids again. The rain poured on Sunday, but spirits were all sky high...it was a really fun weekend.
We look forward to seeing many of them this summer as campers and volunteers. We were also sad to say goodbye to some campers who are heading off to college and other new adventures (keep in touch!).
Thanks you guys, for a terrific weekend!
