Program Coordinators
Summer Coordinator: Nat Corrall
 |
Nat comes to us from Australia and now calls Camp Surf home. Nat has worked with children from New Zealand, Asia, Mexico and Europe. These experiences have given her the opportunity to combine her love of traveling and adventure with her passion for diversity, culture and the need for greater understanding in the world. Nat began her camping services career at Camp Surf in 1999, originally coming for the “summer of her life” as a camp counselor, has worked in many areas of camp, and has been the full time Summer Coordinator since early 2007. She had a large part in developing our S.O.U.L surfers program, and is involved in outreach and service activities during the non-summer seasons. Nat always looks forward to seeing campers return each summer to continue their camp experience and is excited to meet new campers and their families. She smiles often, laughs loud, enjoys live music, spending time with friends and can be found excercising around Imperial Beach before the rest of the town even wakes up.

Outdoor Education Coordinator: Skye Manion

Skye joined the Camp Surf family in Summer 2001 and has spent numerous Summer and Outdoor Education seasons here at YMCA Camp Surf. Her love for the ocean, working with children, and having fun at camp is what keeps her coming back! Skye is from Australia where she studied and earned her degree in Early Childhood Education. She has worked in a variety of educational and recreational settings and brings a lot of experience working with children of all ages. As the Coordinator of our Outdoor Education Program Skye brings tremendous enthusiasm for teaching children about our unique environment. Her energy, organization, and creativity have definitely brought some fun additions to our program! In her free time Skye loves spending time with friends, shopping, swimming, snow skiing and traveling around the world.

Waterfront Coordinator : Gil Olsen
 |
Gil Olsen spent his breaks from Rutgers University guarding on the Jersey Shore, traveling around the world surfing, and leading and coordinating Boy Scout trips in the Florida Keys. After moving to Southern California, he was excited to discover Camp Surf and become involved with the YMCA and put his experiences with people and the ocean to use helping others. Since starting in early 2007, he has trained and worked with our lifeguards to make sure our Waterfront is a safe one, and has also recently taken on helping out with our group services program as well as overhauling our disaster preparedness plans. Gil spends most of his free time cruising on a paddleboard, and spends his evenings painting, reading, strumming a guitar or ukulele, going to concerts, and trying to keep in touch with friends and family. Even with all that (and a carne asada burrito) on his plate, he still finds time to update the website and write about himself in the third person.

Waterfront Unit Leader : Jarod Lalonde
 |
Originally from the heart of it all in the great state of Ohio, Jarod has worked his way around the world from South Carolina to the Florida Keys to Australia and back to California. Recently, Jarod has been pursuing a degree in environmental engineering full time but he has been contributing his varied skills to camp since 2003. When he's not hitting the books (or commuting to school 28 miles round trip on his bike), Jarod can be found running the waterfront on a busy weekend, building a house with maintenance, sailing on the high seas, or spear fishing off the jetty in front of camp. |
