Dining Facility

The dining deck at YMCA Camp Surf is one of a kind.  Seating over 200 people on large picnic tables, this space is mere feet from the pacific ocean.  A spectacular panoramic view spanning from the Coronado Islands in Mexico and the Imperial Beach Pier over 180 degrees of the Pacific Ocean to Point Loma, Coronado and the San Diego Skyline.  A spectacluar vantage point at any hour, the view only gets better as the sun sets over the pacific ocean.  Words don't really do it justice, you'll just have to see it to believe it.

Food Service

You'll be hard pressed to find another camp with food service that compares to Camp Surf.  Every meal includes a hot entree. Breakfast is complimented by fresh fruit, cereal and yogurt, and lunch and dinner include an impressive salad bar.  Staff focus on nutrutious meals made from scratch, and always include a vegitartian option.

In addition to the meals being delicious, we are also environmentally and socially concious in the way we operate our food service.  Here are two of the important things we do around the kitchen (and you can do at home!) that are helping to reduce our waste and act as responsible consumers.

  • We give our participants the opportunity to compost thier food waste.  We estimate that in 2007 alone we turned nearly 2,000 pounds of "trash" into fertile soil that we use to plant native species around camp in our landscaping.
  • We purchase and serve only organic, fair trade coffee in compostable cups- NO STYROFOAM! Fair trade organic coffee is better for the consumer (you), the farmers that grow it, and the environment we all live in.  Instead of 8,000 strofoam cups headed to the landfill, we sent all our paper cups printed with soy based inks to the compost pile.
